E.63 How To Get Comfortable With Feeling Uncomfortable With Clémentine Desseaux

I am soo excited to share this guest with you!

French Model, activist, and body positivity expert, Clémentine Desseaux, is joining me on the show today.

Clem is the founder of The All Womxn Project. In today's podcast she is going to talk to us about getting comfortable on social media.

When Clém was 19, she had her first internship in Paris. She was in business school at the time and had to go to Paris where she was not paid.

In order to make money, Clem went searching for different opportunities. She heard of a small modeling agency that had recently started representing plus-size girls. Clem decided to reach out send in old photos that she had taken the year before. A couple of days later, they contacted her back with good news and she signed her first contract.

On the side Clem started doing little jobs, but she never thought of modeling as a career. It started getting serious when she started getting requests from other agencies and photographers to represent her. She also got a casting call for a plus-size retail company in France. They were the first clothing company to have plus-sized models and she was excited about it. After her casting audition, she got the job. After that, a few months later, she moved to Miami.

When her commercial came out, everyone was shocked to see a big girl on TV dancing in a bodysuit.

There were different reviews from everybody, which gave her a first taste of what it feels like to represent women. This is what made her want to turn this into a full career to inspire women and have them comfortable with their bodies.

After living in Miami for about a year, she moved to New York to pursue modeling as her full-time career.

The All Womxn Project started five years ago, where body positivity was not as common as it is today. They started the project to prove to people that all kinds of women from different ages, sizes, and colors are all beautiful. Their first campaign  was in Vogue Magazine, which Clem never thought possible. After it was published in Vogue Magazine, it went viral and was published in other magazines all around the world. When they saw that women wanted to see more of their work and wanted to see more women that looked like them, they kept going. In the process of turning into a charity, they also developed local groups and chapters all across the country. Women would come to gather every month and there would be guest speakers and workshops.

“This was an opportunity to just bond and support each other, and be there and talk about everything women related.”

If she could go back 10 years and give herself advice, Clem would tell her to stop worrying so much about everything and to just embrace her body because that was the biggest hurdle growing up. Also to stand up for herself.
