Nominated for the prestigious 2018 Monaco Influencer Awards, Niki started her education and career in Miami then worked her way up to New York City.  Niki has styled for many high profile clientele and continues to work closely with many big as well as smaller brands. Through her creative social media presence ‘Haute Husla’, Niki continues to style and inspire people from all over the globe.

Listen in as Niki shares her journey.

For Niki, it all started at the University of Miami with an interest in fashion and marketing. Niki knew she wasn't the 9 to 5 type of gal so she created her own path by working with local stores and creating one of a kind T-shirts. Niki describes them as funky friday night T-shirts that were sold at local boutiques in Miami and New York City.

This was a great start for Niki getting her feet wet and being an Entrepreneur.

Niki was able to build relationships with some high profile clients while working in the showroom at a vintage clothing store as a stylist and seller at  ‘What Comes Around Goes Around’ based in NYC . Here, she would showcase rare pieces on Instagram and market to celebrity clientele.

This was a very eye opening experience for Niki seeing how social media played such an integral part of selling products at a time where Instagram was just starting to explode in the merchandising market.

Shortly after, Niki built her own social media presence by blogging these rare pieces to boost sales for the business while in the process building her own high profile clientele.

Niki talks about her revenue model and how it varies on a brand to brand basis. She explains that budget and deliverables guide the pricing structure.

Of course building your own business comes with its hurdles and challenges!

One of the biggest challenges for Niki when starting out was getting the brands to actually offer compensation for time spent on the project. As a blogger there is more to just selling a sweater or shoes on social media, blogging is a full time small business.

Much of her time is spent on advertising to her personal audience or platform. Getting rights to images themselves goes unnoticed by brands and was the biggest obstacle in the beginning.

It is important to Niki as a business owner to keep her image and audience authentic. Knowing when to make the distinction of when to draw the line on which brands she wants to work with and which brands she does not is an important part of Niki’s business model.

So far in Niki’s career her most proud and exciting moments were being nominated for the Monaco Influencer Awards, which was a ‘pinch me’ moment for Niki. During the event she was able to meet and be around many different International Influencer's that were in food, travel and fashion.

Even though summer looks different this year because of the pandemic, Niki believes you can still feel good about what clothes you wear, whether that be a cute workout outfit, PJ set or sweats! Just getting yourself together can be the key to radiate confidence and be successful.

That being said, Niki went back to basics during the quarantine with Hanes jersey’s and Champion sweats! Matching the sweats up with a chunky pair of sneakers, cute socks and gold hoops, giving her a style of a model off duty look.

Experimenting with dressing up sweats and PJ’s has been fun for Niki. When she realized she had accumulated a bunch of sweats she cut them up into shorts, hair scrunchies and quarantine masks.

Niki doesn’t let any material go to waste!

Contrast is key for Niki when dressing up or dressing down. Heels with sweatpants or sneakers with dresses is a practice that Niki enjoys.

Obsessed with the high/low sense of style, one of Niki’s absolute favorite fashion tips is buying a few splurge worthy pieces, then combining it with attainable and affordable pieces. For example, a Hanes wife beater with a Chanel bag or a thirty dollar dress with a Louis Vuitton bag, so something super affordable or low end with something luxury that will last forever.

One splurge worthy piece would be a Chanel bag, she says, which is expensive but there are many sites where you can buy second hand or do layaway. Even if it is beaten up, you can take it to a leather spa and they can spruce it up for you. Chanel is a brand that will last for years and years to come.

When asked where is the best place to buy jewelry and accessories Niki suggests:

➤Markets, flea markets, and artists fleas where things are handmade.

➤For a great variety of pieces try the BaubleBar, they have fun pieces for the beach or vacation.

➤Go to the Shopbop or Revolve and go to the category and discover designers from there like Jennifer Miller and Jennifer Fisher. Going on sites you love is also a great way to discover jewelry designers!

Last but not least, if Niki could give her ten year younger self just one piece of advice, she would say,  like the Nike logo says..JUST DO IT!

Don't be scared and do you. Do what you are passionate about and if it doesn’t feel like a job then you are doing something right!
