Listen in below to hear Candace share her journey to self love and her advocacy of the body positive movement, and also how you can empower yourself in your journey of self love while confidently starting out as a new entrepreneur.

Candace started out in the photography field right out of high school just around the time Instagram was beginning to gain popularity.  Starting out on Instagram helped Candace to network and grow an audience which transitioned into consulting with other brands and ultimately led to building her own brand.

Growing up Candace thought she wanted to be a nurse then quickly realized that hospitals were not her scene!

There have been many hurdles that Candace had to navigate her way through as a young entrepreneur. There are things no one tells as an entrepreneur Candace explains, like how to prepare invoices, the correct way to form a deposit, how to gain clients and keep repeat clients. It takes a lot of time and trial and error Candace shares, and these are things that Candace wishes she had known more about before getting into it but now does it every single day and is grateful she learned early on.

Candace has many things to be proud of in her business so far, like much of the business she does with larger scale companies but is most proud of the work she does one on one with local businesses in Portland, like restaurants and boutiques that she supports personally.

Candace shares that as a plus size black woman she had to learn at a very early age how to step into her own skin and become comfortable. Jumping into social media pushed Candace to find her confidence journey. Candace shares that it doesn't happen overnight and she thinks of it as building a skill, it takes practice and time, some days are better than others so be patient with yourself.

Positive affirmations, experimenting with your style, becoming more comfortable with choosing different clothing are all ways you can start to feel even more beautiful in your skin,

Candace shares some tips when you are having self doubt about the way you feel, she suggests,

➤Meet yourself where you are at currently and accept the person you are at this moment.

➤Know that where you are now is enough and where you will be  in the future is enough.

➤Remember that your audience needs you and what you have to offer!

➤Practice is key to being in a photo, practice at home trying different angles with your phone and gain confidence in seeing yourself on camera.

➤Knowing the importance of angles when posing is key, not everyone is a supermodel and knows naturally how to pose, and even supermodels don’t look like that!

Growing up  as a plus size black woman in a predominantly white town came with some traumas that go along with just trying to feel beautiful on a daily basis. Media portrayal  of what a woman should look like is not realistic which inspired Candace to start her own body positive movement where she found body types and skin tones that looked like hers.

Candace also shares her number one social media tip for getting started!

If you feel you are ready to show up and are able to do it confidently there isn't anything wrong with doing something on the daily, whether its posting a story or selfie while on a walk or hanging out with friends, whatever gets you started!

Finally, Candace shares that her way to embody unstoppable confidence is to recognize negative self talk and be patient with yourself; it is a journey!

If Candace could go back and tell her younger self anything she would say.. be patient with yourself, you do not have to have everything figured out and if you set your mind to it you truly can do it!

Sometimes life just has a different path for you so ride the wave and go with it!
